Loved the various counselors they have with years of practice. They have various styles and thus I think you’ll find several if not all, that are helpful in your journey.

TBH went above and beyond to help me with my recovery. I needed a 2 week reset after a relapse and they gave more effort and appreciation than the other recoveries I have been to they go above and beyond to help with one on one care and a super supportive family style care. Allison was one of the best parts with being super helpful as the program director

Healing, growth, a beautiful new beginning—and the new family I found along the way. My time at Tennessee Behavioral Health was a true journey of transformation. Through patience, compassion, and genuine care from the staff, I began to heal in ways I never expected. What started as an uncertain step toward change became one of the most meaningful experiences of my life. I found peace, clarity, and confidence, and left with a deep sense of self and purpose that I’ll carry forever. The house at Tennessee Behavioral Health is truly a place of comfort and healing. The outings and gym time were always enjoyable and gave us moments to relax, recharge, and feel normal again. Charles’s groups were meaningful and encouraging, helping us learn, grow, and connect. Attending church brought peace and renewal. The health care staff is beyond exceptional. Morgan, the Health Care Director, leads with compassion and integrity, setting the tone for the team. Leah Lima, APN, and nurses Laci, Candi, Meghan, and Chantelle are extraordinary—each provides care that goes far beyond medical needs. They listen, support, and make you feel truly seen and valued, and their kindness and dedication made each day feel safe and hopeful. The technicians—Scott, Dylan, and Jack—are amazing. They’re patient, funny, and genuinely care. Whether it was a conversation, a shared laugh, or help with something small, they always brought warmth and positivity. Chris, the chef, is wonderful—his food is incredible. Every meal tasted like it came straight from a five-star restaurant, and his kindness made dining something to look forward to every day. Johnna, my case manager, truly changed my life. She understood me deeply and was there every step of the way—listening, guiding, and supporting me through my growth. Her compassion, humor, and steady encouragement helped me rediscover parts of myself I thought were gone. Johnna is one of those rare people who make you feel seen and supported no matter what, and I’ll always be grateful for her. Allison, the Program Director, is one of the most compassionate and genuine people I’ve ever met—and hilarious in the best way. Her humor brightens even the hardest days, and her laughter fills the house with warmth. Beyond that, Allison is an exceptional leader—she balances professionalism with heart, always taking time to listen and understand. She goes above and beyond for everyone under her care, advocating fiercely and offering support that’s both wise and heartfelt. Her empathy and authenticity make her someone who instantly feels like home. Albert, the Director of Tennessee Behavioral Health, is the heart and soul of the program. His dedication and compassion are unmatched. He pours his heart into every part of Tennessee Behavioral Health—the home, the staff, and every client. The love and effort he invests are felt in every corner of the house. Albert leads with sincerity, vision, and a true commitment to helping others heal. His presence inspires trust, hope, and belonging. His passion has built something truly special—something that changes lives every single day. I thank God for being blessed with Tennessee Behavioral Health. It isn’t just a program—it’s a family. I love each of them dearly for the compassion, encouragement, laughter, and faith they poured into me. They believed in me until I could believe in myself. Because of them, my life is filled with peace, confidence, and hope—and I’ll forever be grateful for everything Tennessee Behavioral Health gave me. ❤️

Understanding Bipolar Disorder
Also known as manic depression, bipolar disorder includes cycles of major depression, full-blown mania, and hypomanic highs. These mood disorders can severely impact physical health, emotional regulation, relationships, and the ability to function at work or home. There are different types of bipolar disorders, including Bipolar I, Bipolar II, and Cyclothymic Disorder. Some individuals also experience complex co-occurring disorders such as Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, substance use disorder, or psychotic disorders like schizoaffective disorder.
Depressive Episodes
Periods of severe depression, marked by low energy levels, a depressed mood, and symptoms of depression such as lack of interest in activities and difficulty concentrating.
Manic Episodes
Periods of elevated mood or excessive energy, often accompanied by reckless behaviors, false beliefs, and severe symptoms.
Hypomanic Episodes
Milder forms of mania that may still impact daily activities.
Mixed Episodes
Episodes where symptoms of mania and depression occur simultaneously.
Causes and Risk Factors
At Tennessee Behavioral Health, our experienced professionals conduct a comprehensive assessment and psychiatric diagnosis to identify underlying issues. We take into account medical history, behavioral issues, and co-occurring conditions such as alcohol addiction or intimacy disorders. A proper diagnosis is the foundation of our individualized treatment plan, designed by a dedicated team with expertise in dual diagnosis treatment and co-occurring substance use disorders.
Long-Term Management
Bipolar disorder is a lifelong mental health condition that requires structured, ongoing management. Left untreated, extreme mood swings, emotional highs, and depressive lows can severely disrupt daily life and daily functioning. At Tennessee Behavioral Health, our clinical team focuses on evidence-based treatment plans that support long-term stability and a balanced life.
At Tennessee Behavioral Health, we provide comprehensive care for individuals living with bipolar disorder. Our treatment approach is built around medical care, psychological therapy, and lifestyle management. This holistic approach ensures individuals receive the support they need to manage bipolar symptoms and live productive lives.
1. Medication Management
Medication is often essential for stabilizing bipolar mood swings and reducing acute symptoms. Our psychiatric team, including Nurse Practitioners and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners, carefully evaluates each client’s medical history and mental health diagnosis to recommend proper treatment options.
Mood Stabilizers: These help manage emotional highs and lows, supporting long-term recovery and preventing future episodes.
Antipsychotic Drugs: Prescribed for severe forms of mania or psychotic symptoms often seen in co-occurring conditions.
Antidepressants: Used cautiously, and typically alongside mood stabilizers, to avoid triggering manic episodes.
Long-term Stabilizers (e.g., Divalproex Sodium): Often part of an individualized treatment plan for ongoing management.
2. Psychological Therapy
Psychological therapies form the core of our therapeutic services. We use evidence-based treatment modalities delivered by qualified professionals in a supportive environment.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Helps individuals challenge distorted thought patterns and reduce risky behavior.
Family-Focused Therapy: Engages loved ones to support communication and reduce stress within the home.
Social Rhythm Therapy: Encourages consistent daily routines to help stabilize mood and prevent disruption in daily life.
Access Therapy: Offers targeted treatment for medication-resistant depression and depressive episodes within bipolar disorder.
3. Brain Stimulation Procedures
For severe cases, particularly when previous treatments have not been effective, our mental health treatment center offers advanced options through brain stimulation.
Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT): Used for severe depression and manic episodes that do not respond to traditional therapies.
Magnetic Stimulation: A non-invasive procedure using magnetic fields to improve mood and treat depressive symptoms.
4. Lifestyle Management
We believe that comprehensive treatment also includes lifestyle changes that support long-term stability and emotional regulation.
Healthy Lifestyle: Regular exercise, balanced nutrition, and avoiding substance abuse all contribute to improved brain chemistry and reduced behavioral issues.
Sleep Patterns: Stabilizing sleep routines is key to reducing mood instability and supporting overall wellness.
Mood Journals: Tracking shifts in energy and mood helps individuals identify patterns and triggers.
Self-Management Strategies: Clients learn behavioral tools and accessible tools to take an active role in their treatment process.
